Unfailing Joy
Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

There invariably comes a time when we have to take a leap of faith. And in that moment of leaping (which, by the way, seems to go on for an eternity when you’re mid-air with nothing beneath your feet) your emotions can easily get the better of you; your heart wavers; you imagine that you’re about to fall flat on your face.
Back in my military days, the bit of training I hated most was the obstacle course. It was run, climb a huge wall, drop down again, crawl through mud under barbed wire (of course!), up the ropes, over the top … you get the picture.
But my least favourite part was having to run up a narrow ramp just a few inches wide until you were high off the ground … running across a level piece (equally narrow), then having to leap over a considerable gap before running across and down again. That leap, that gap … absolutely terrifying.
Life’s a lot like that. There are times when fear grips your heart.
Reflecting on those times, sharing what he’d learned in those moments of life-and-death leaping, King David of Israel wrote this:
Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. (NIV)
When your strength is gone, when your heart fails, when fear overwhelms you … trust in the Lord. And here’s what will replace your fear …
Your heart will leap for joy, and your songs will praise Him.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
