What Jesus Wants
Mark 6:30-32 The apostles Jesus had sent out came back to him. They gathered around him and told him about all they had done and taught. Jesus and his followers were in a very busy place. There were so many people that he and his followers did not even have time to eat. He said to them, “Come with me. We will go to a quiet place to be alone. There we will get some rest.” So Jesus and his followers went away alone. They went in a boat to a place where no one lived.
I don’t think any of us needs a lecture on the benefits of rest, of taking a break from our labours, of drawing away and having some “me time”. But if that’s the case, why are so many people living such stressed, frazzled lives?
I came home from an international ministry trip recently – a 15 hour flight there and back, an eight hour time change at each end, five cities, nine days running workshops, speaking, meetings, radio interviews … it was awesome but intense.
So when I arrived home late Friday afternoon, I gave myself a long weekend to recuperate. Honestly, I used to feel guilty taking an extra day off – and many people still do. But God knows we can’t keep up that sort of pace forever. Indeed He does!

Whatever work looks like for you – perhaps you’re retired and look after grandchildren one or two days a week, or maybe you’re in the midst of a high-flying career or you’re involved in physical labour day after day – we all need to rest. Please, listen to Jesus:
Come with me. We will go to a quiet place to be alone. There we will get some rest.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
