What’s Gone Wrong?
Psalm 63:1-4 God, you are my God. I am searching so hard to find you. Body and soul, I thirst for you in this dry and weary land without water. Yes, I have seen you in your Temple. I have seen your strength and glory. Your faithful love is better than life, so my lips praise you. By my life, I will praise you. In your name, I lift my hands in prayer.
In this world that’s moving ever faster, becoming ever more transactional, becoming more digital than it is real, it seems that more and more, the norm for us is to opt for shallow relationships. An augmented reality of quick-fire messages and social media voyeurism.
We want real relationships. We yearn for them, and yet, nobody seems to have the time to develop them anymore.
So many people, deep in their hearts desire God Himself; they yearn for a real, intimate relationship with Jesus. They long not to know about Him, but to know Him for themselves. And yet it’s as though we’ve been taught, again, in this fast moving, transactional world, that it’s the norm for us to have a shallow relationship with God. To squeeze Him in here and there, wherever we can.
Even in church. Can I say that, sadly, I’ve visited many a church where a mighty longing after God appears to be absent. In the worship, where entertainment abounds, but the flame is missing. In the pulpit, where words abound, but the glory of God is missing. In the fellowship, where the coffee is fresh but somehow, the hearts that long mightily after Jesus are absent.
If that sad malady sounds just a little too familiar for comfort, then today, my prayer is that God will rekindle the flame in your heart, your burning desire for Him, in your spirit:
God, you are my God. (Psalm 63:1-4)
We all feel flat sometimes. We all struggle to lift our gaze Christ-ward some days. And on those days, we need the Holy Spirit to light a fire for Him in our hearts. King David wrote this Psalm and that fire was raging in his heart. You can just feel it can’t you.
Light your candle at his flame. Let the Word of God set you on fire. And may the Holy Spirit do a mighty work of passion in your life.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Oh this is so true, I’ve not long been MC’ing some of our services and though I had felt the lack before, I feel and see it more when on the stage. We can have a wonderful worship time and feel the presence of God, but when I get on stage, I have to wonder if I am the only one hungering and feeling His presence. I see those that are there, but don’t seem to be “searching so hard to find (Him)”. And I’m not sure what I need to do to help see that change.

PTL Julie. Here’s the thing – just ask God to fan the flame. Long after Him, spend time with Him, read His Word … and He will show up and do the rest! Absolutely He will. Blessings, Berni

Thankyou so much for today’s devotional. I love these verses. This is a concern for me. I often wonder , do I have enough longing and passion for Jesus. Yes I long for Him. But is it enough. All I can do is keep plugging in to Jesus. Take Him with me everywhere I go. This morning’s devotional has helped fan the flame . Thankyou.
