What’s it Worth?

Mark 8:36 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost.

Question: How do you place a value on a human life? After all, right now there are over 8.1 billion people on planet Earth. That’s rather a lot. So what exactly is just one of those worth?

Well, that depends. In some cultures, people place a much lower value on human life than perhaps you and I do. To many, a life in its mother’s womb is worth … well, nothing.

Courts regularly have to place a monetary value on a life in compensation cases. And then, more often than not, its deemed value is based on the person’s earning capacity.

As an alternative, many across the whole gamut of belief systems have come to the conclusion that a human life has intrinsic value. So, what’s a life worth?

What’s your life worth – not just here and now, but for all eternity? Whatever you believe, you will live on beyond this life – that much is for certain. It’s exactly what Jesus promised. And in doing so, He said that:

Mark 8:36 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost.

How you live your life, whether or not you live it out believing that Jesus’ sacrifice on that Cross purchased God’s forgiveness for you, has everything to do with where and how you’ll spend your eternity.

Some spend their whole lives chasing after wealth, comfort, success, recognition – only to lose it all at the end.

Can I ask you quietly but very deliberately … how are you living your life? Because it’s worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
