Why Stay Foolish?
Proverbs 14:6 Anyone who makes fun of wisdom will never find it, but knowledge comes easily to those who understand its value.
Empowerment is a word we all love. Hey, who doesn’t want to feel empowered? Who doesn’t want to be able to crash through their problems? But you can’t talk about empowerment without mentioning responsibility and accountability, at which point, many recoil. What, really?
Any psychologist will tell you how important it is to acknowledge your own role in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. To become more self-aware. To step up and become an active agent in your life. To take the initiative. To make decisions that’ll shape your destiny rather than just letting it all happen to you.
And let’s be honest, that’s hard work. It involves struggle. It involves courage. It involves goal setting. It involves taking responsibility for yourself. Wouldn’t it just be easier to keep playing the victim?
For many, the answer’s yes. So they poke fun at the wisdom people try to bless them with. They diminish the value of the best advice. And they continue on, wallowing in self-pity. That’s the truth of the matter.
Proverbs 14:6 Anyone who makes fun of wisdom will never find it, but knowledge comes easily to those who understand its value.
If we want to break an undesirable cycle we’re caught up in, we do have to step up to the plate, to take responsibility, to value and accept wisdom, especially God’s wisdom, as confronting and uncomfortable as it may be.
The main reason people remain foolish is because the truth requires them to change. Which approach will you take?
Anyone who makes fun of wisdom will never find it, but knowledge comes easily to those who understand its value.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
