Your Body is a Temple

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 So run away from sexual sin. It involves the body in a way that no other sin does. So if you commit sexual sin, you are sinning against your own body. You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves. God paid a very high price to make you his. So honour God with your body.

Today … we’re going to chat about … well, a touchy subject. Immorality, specifically sexual immorality. When it comes to views on the expression of intimacy, there are two polar opposites. At one end of the spectrum, if it feels good do it. At the other end, perhaps the religious end if we can call it that, there are some very specific moral views on fidelity and family. Where do you sit?

A good many historians and moral philosophers will argue that immorality is proven to lead to the decline of civilisations, citing the fall of the all-powerful Roman empire as a prime example. Women and children inevitably, tragically, tend to bear the brunt of it.

Look, I don’t know where you sit but I’m a pretty simple fellow. One man, one woman, in a loving, life-long relationship of intimacy seems to me to form the perfect basis for a stable society in which children are loved and nurtured. I know many will howl me down. That’s fine. And I’m the first to agree that the system’s been far from perfect down through the ages.

But wherever you sit, I need to share this with you today:

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 So run away from sexual sin. It involves the body in a way that no other sin does. So if you commit sexual sin, you are sinning against your own body. You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves. God paid a very high price to make you his. So honour God with your body.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
