Your Hidden Potential
Psalm 139:13-14 For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
Do you know what’s really tragic? When someone’s hidden potential goes unrealised because the world can’t see it, because even the person themselves can’t see it. That is such a tragedy! So what hidden talent lies lurking beneath your skin, hmm?
Hedy Lamarr is best known as a Hollywood actress of the 1930’s and 40’s. She starred in many successful films and was celebrated as one of the most beautiful and glamorous women of her day.
So you can see how easy it was for the press and the public to type-cast her as just another actress with stunning good looks. But Hedy’s talents were more than skin deep. It turns out that she was also an inventor.
Deeply concerned with the war effort, she, along with composer George Antheil, co-invented …wait for this … a frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum radio communication technology designed to prevent the jamming of torpedo signals by enemy forces.
That invention went on to lay the groundwork for today’s wireless communication technologies, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Unbelievable, and yet sometimes fact is stranger than fiction.
But there’s a very good reason why amazing things like that happen. Writes the psalmist as he’s praying to God …
Psalm 139:13-14 For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. (NRSV)
And you too, make no mistake, are fearfully and wonderfully made. You too have the potential that God wove into your DNA while you were still in your mother’s womb. Don’t ignore it!
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
