Your Love Must be Real

Romans 12:9,10 Your love must be real. Hate what is evil. Do only what is good. Love each other in a way that makes you feel close like brothers and sisters. And give each other more honour than you give yourself.

When you think about it, there’s a lot of shallow love going round these days. But the more you think about it, love that pretends to be love, isn’t love at all. All that pretend love does, is to hurt people.

I’m sure we’ve each had at least one relationship in life where we thought the other person loved us, only to discover that it was pretend love. The sort of love that didn’t last. The sort of love that didn’t remain faithful. The sort of love that, at the end of the day, was disposable. Yep, that hurts.

And I for one don’t want to inflict that sort of “love”, that sort of hurt on others. I’m sure you’re the same, which is why today, God is giving us a wake-up call to get real.

Romans 12:9,10 Your love must be real. Hate what is evil. Do only what is good. Love each other in a way that makes you feel close like brothers and sisters. And give each other more honour than you give yourself.

How do we get real? How do we make sure that the love that we give out is genuine? We hate evil and only do good. We honour others above ourselves, because in doing so, we demonstrate to them that our love is genuine. Rocket science that ain’t!!

At work, we don’t backstab people, we don’t step over them to get where we’re going. We give them credit where credit’s due. We lift them up in front of others. We honour them.

At home, we encourage our children, even when we’re disciplining them. Husbands help your wives, serve them as Christ served you. Wives bless your husbands in ways that only you can.

Your love must be real. Hate what is evil. Do only what is good.
