Your Sense of Purpose

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)

There seem to be two types of people walking planet Earth today – those with a strong sense of purpose, and those without one. There doesn’t seem to be much in between. So which one are you?

It’s easy to blame our circumstances for a lack of purpose. And yet I’ve seen people dying of cancer, people living in abject poverty, people being crushed and abused by others who somehow manage to set their lives on a course of achieving greatness.

I don’t mean the sort of greatness that necessarily means winning a Nobel Peace Prize or becoming a top-selling musician. That’s all well and good, but it’s not where most of us end up.

I mean the sort of greatness that impacts other people’s lives, even if it’s just the life of one other person – a mother who dedicates herself to bringing up her children to become godly, caring adults; a man who pours himself out for those in need around him; people who channel their energies for good, even though there are no accolades associated with their sacrifice.

Circumstances should never be our excuse for a lack of purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)

God made you in a certain way, with special gifts and abilities. And He’s prepared the way for you to use them for good works; to use them to bless others; to use them for His glory.

It doesn’t matter how young or old, how rich or poor, how famous or not you are … you are His workmanship, created with a purpose to do the good works that He has already prepared, for you to walk in them. That’s where your life’s purpose lies.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
