Psalm 103:11-14 His love for his followers is as high above us as heaven is above the earth. And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is as kind to his followers as a father is to his children. He knows all about us. He knows we are made from dust.
The theory, the theology if you will, tells us that when you believe in Jesus, God forgives you all your sins. Great. But do we really get that? Do you really get that? Are you living in God’s forgiveness? Really?
I frequently fly from Sydney to Singapore. It’s about a seven-and-a-half-hour flight. But amazingly it takes just over four hours, over half the flight, simply to get out of Australia. It turns out that from east to west across this continent, is an incredibly long way.
And it was up at thirty-five thousand feet over mile after mile of parched desert recently, that the power of this statement about God’s forgiveness, really hit home:
Psalm 103:11-14 His love for his followers is as high above us as heaven is above the earth. And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is as kind to his followers as a father is to his children. He knows all about us. He knows we are made from dust.
So when God tells us that he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west, I get this picture in my mind of: Wow! That’s a really long way. That’s a really big deal.
When you believe in Jesus, God is so quick to forgive you. In an instant, He removes our sin from us – as far as the east is from the west. But somehow, we don’t want to let go. Somehow, we want to wallow around in this guilt for days, weeks, months on end … and for some people, even for a lifetime.
Listen up. When God forgives you, that’s it. It’s a done deal. The slate is wiped clean. Full stop. End of story.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
