A Confident Life in Uncertain Times

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and be brave. Don’t be afraid of those people because the LORD your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you.”

So, question … do you like uncertainty? Do you relish not knowing what lies ahead when it really matters; when there’s an uncertain health diagnosis, a financial crisis, a relationship teetering on the edge? I don’t think any of us do. Nope, uncertainty tends to be somewhere between unsettling and excruciating. And yet, uncertainty is a fact of life.

It starts at a very young age. I was recently watching a young couple, husband and wife, loving their five year old daughter through a cancer diagnosis, a barrage of invasive, painful and traumatic tests, and on into chemotherapy.

Crucial to that child’s ability to make it through was the reassuring presence of her mother and father. Without them, it would have been completely unbearable for her.

And honestly, sometimes the things we face in life make us feel as small and as vulnerable as that five year old – with things swirling around us that we can’t begin to fully comprehend or deal with. You’ve been there too right?

At a dangerous time in Israel’s history, an uncertain time as they were about to step over into the Promised Land, their trusted leader Moses, with his health failing, says this to his successor, Joshua:

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and be brave. Don’t be afraid of those people because the LORD your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you.”

And that’s the truth. No matter what you’re going through, the assuring Presence of God will never leave you. Never.

So be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid … the Lord your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
