A Love So Great
Hosea 6:6 This is because I want faithful love, not sacrifice, I want people to know God, not to bring burnt offerings.
For anyone who’s been serving God for a while and perhaps you’re weary, you’re tired, you’re wondering “What’s it all about?” this is for you.
What I’m about to say might be, well, a bit hard to listen to, but it needs to be said nevertheless.
There are so many people in this world who believe in Jesus. And many of those are living out that faith by doing things for God – on the property committee at church, leading a home group, playing the guitar during worship, managing the church finances, evangelising … there are so many different ways of serving God. And often, they involve sacrifice.
That’s all good stuff. That’s exactly as it should be. But one of the things that you see in so many of God’s people, is, sadly, the absence of joy in what they’re doing for Him. It’s as though doing stuff for God has become routine, mundane, even burdensome. You see people grumbling, complaining … and it makes me wonder … hang on, what’s gone wrong here? What happened to the passion??
Maybe you know someone like that.
Hosea 6:6 This is because I want faithful love, not sacrifice, I want people to know God, not to bring burnt offerings.
It seems that God’s desire isn’t so much that we do all this sacrificing on His behalf. God’s desire, His passion, the very beat of His great and mighty heart, is that we draw close to Him and get to know Him. And here’s the tough bit: unless and until we do that, all that sacrifice, all that carrying of heavy burdens, is a complete waste of time.
This is because I want faithful love, not sacrifice, I want people to know me, not to bring me burnt offerings.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
