Are You Ready to Receive?

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (NKJV)

Christmas means a lot of things to a lot of people. For some it will be a great celebration, for others a lonely time, for others it will be a workday. So … what will Christmas be for you?

So here we are … we’ve landed in Christmas week and yes, we’re going to do that whole Christmas thing one more time. So here’s my question for you: are you ready?

No, I’m not talking about the shopping, the presents, Christmas lunch, the decorations. That’s all well and good but it’s not the point, now is it? No, what I want to know is whether in your heart of hearts you’re ready to receive the greatest gift ever given, because that, after all, is what Christmas is all about.

Around seven hundred years before Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied His coming, interestingly, as though He had already come:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (NKJV)

That’s quite a list of superlatives, isn’t it? A child, (a son at that), a Wonderful Counsellor, mighty God … hang on a minute. Stop right there! What did Isaiah just say? That mighty God would be born into this world. Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

There can be no mistake, none whatsoever. This is a prophecy of the birth of God into this world, God becoming man, – one of us – to live with us, to show Himself to us, to die for us. That’s what Christmas is all about. So let me ask you again. Are you ready to receive the greatest gift ever given? If not, get ready. Christ is coming.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
