Being Beethoven

1 Peter 4:10,11 God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be [a] good servant and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve others. If your gift is speaking, your words should be like words from God. If your gift is serving, you should serve with the strength that God gives. Then it is God who will be praised in everything through Jesus Christ. Power and glory belong to him forever and ever. Amen.

All too often, the gifts and abilities that God’s woven into our very being go unappreciated by the rest of the world. Worse still – and you’ve probably experienced this too – they’ll give you all the reasons under the sun not to do what He’s calling you to do.

Whether you’re into classical music or not, you’ve doubtless heard of the greatest composer of the romantic period, Ludwig van Beethoven. About mid-way during his composing career, he went deaf. They told him he wouldn’t be able to compose any more.

But did Ludwig listen? Noooo! In fact, incredibly, he composed his greatest works after he went deaf. When I decided to leave my secure, well-paying IT consulting career to step into the ailing ministry of Christianityworks, countless well-meaning people tried to talk me out of it.

You see, others can’t always perceive the call of God on your life. They don’t get it, but you do. You know what He’s gifted you to do. You yearn to become that person, to follow His call. Because …

Amen.

Don’t let the lack of vision in others hold you back from following God’s call on your life. Go and be all that He’s made you to be.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
