Breathtaking Stupidity

Proverbs 8:14 I have good advice and common sense to offer. I have understanding and power.

I think I could write a book on all the stupid things I’ve done in my life and no doubt, as you look back on your life, well … I’ll let you be the judge. Question is, how do you avoid doing dumb things in the first place?

Every now and then you witness an act of breathtaking stupidity. Just recently, a truck driver wanted to drive into the underground carpark of our apartment block. Now, there’s a bright yellow metal height bar swinging off the ceiling just outside the roller door. Quite obviously if you can’t get under that bar, you don’t drive your truck in, right?!

But despite the obvious, the driver had his helper lift the bar up and he drove in anyway. Within seconds his truck was wedged between the concrete ceiling and the floor of the carpark.

As I said: breathtaking stupidity!

But truth be known, we’re all capable of breathtaking stupidity. We can all point back to stupid things that we’ve done. The trick is, hopefully, avoiding a repeat performance.

But sometimes we’re stubborn, right?! Who needs help? Who needs advice? Well, the answer is, we all do!

Proverbs 8:14 I have good advice and common sense to offer. I have understanding and power.

God has a lot of good advice and a lot of common sense to offer. After all, He’s God and He’s seen it all before. And when we tap into His wisdom; His advice; His common sense, that brings great power to our lives – power to get things right, power to impact other people’s lives for good.

We don’t always want to listen to advice and common sense, not from God, and certainly not from other people. But the more we do, the more we’ll manage to avoid any more acts of breathtaking stupidity.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
