Completely Worthless

Luke 9:25,26 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are destroyed or lost. Don’t be ashamed of me and my teaching. If that happens, I will be ashamed of you when I come with my divine greatness and that of the Father and the holy angels.

The allure of all the stuff that money can buy seems to be growing by the day. Our economic systems are becoming ever more adept at separating us from our hard-earned cash.

Smartphones, cars with heated and airconditioned seats, designer shoes, five-star adventures … you name it and you can buy it.

My mother lived a relatively simple life. She didn’t have much, but when she passed away it fell to me to pack up her things. We kept a few bits and pieces but most of it, honestly, went to the tip. That makes you think deeply about the stuff you have, how attached you are to it, how much you may want more of it and to what extent all that is dictating the course of your life.

Luke 9:25,26 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are destroyed or lost. Don’t be ashamed of me and my teaching. If that happens, I will be ashamed of you when I come with my divine greatness and that of the Father and the holy angels.

Up to a point we all need stuff, but we can get so caught up in it, so driven by acquiring more, that all of a sudden Jesus takes a back seat in our lives. And as we become more driven by what we have and what we want, we live our lives less for Him. We even become ashamed of being different for His sake.

Don’t let that happen to you. All that stuff will be worth nothing on that day when you stand before Him in His glory.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
