Crash Bang

1 Corinthians 15:51,52 But listen, I tell you this secret: We will not all die, but we will all be changed. It will only take the time of a second. We will be changed as quickly as an eye blinks. This will happen when the last trumpet blows. The trumpet will blow and those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we will all be changed.

Life can take a sharp 180 degree turn in an instant. All the things that you assumed were going to happen for the rest of today, tomorrow, next week, next month … next year … may never happen at all.

Last Saturday was pretty much an ordinary Saturday for me. Out of bed a little later than usual, off for a walk and some exercise, out for a coffee with Jacqui, my wife, and our little dog, Muffin. In the afternoon, we drove down to a rug store to find a rug for our lounge room. I parked the car on the side of the road, opened the door and then BANG – I was covered in shattered glass. Another car had come along at speed and collected my driver’s side door. Our car had to be towed.

I was standing on the side of the road, and it struck me that I was just a split second away from stepping out of the car. Another half a second and I probably wouldn’t be here.

And that’s how it is; only a split second separates life and death. In just an instant, it can all change. Bang.

Can I ask you this: Where are you going to spend eternity? It takes just a split second to move from this life into the next. But eternity – well, that’s a very long time.

Where will you be spending eternity?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
