Dad’s Kids
1 John 3:1 The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don't understand that we are God's children, because they have not known him.
It’s easy to refer to God as our Father, and yet, I wonder how many of His children actually live their lives as though He truly is their Father.
I had a great father. He’s long gone now, but I remember when I’d walk into his house, I had privileges in that house. Even after I’d grown up and left, I still had privileges that other people didn’t have.
You for instance, you could not have walked into my father’s house and opened the refrigerator to see what there was to eat. You could not have invited yourself to stay overnight, as I did. And there’s a reason for that. It’s because he was my father and not yours, and I was his son, not someone else’s.
Now, all that’s pretty obvious. But that’s exactly the picture that we’re meant to see, when God reveals Himself to us as our Father. Jesus called Him “Abba” – the best translation we have for that word is “Dad”. Now that shocked and offended the religious leaders of His day, because accepting God as our Father, well, that’s not quite so obvious. And yet …

When God comes along and says – I’m your Dad – He’s drawing the picture of our relationship with Him, that I just drew for you of my dad and me.
Not just God, but God the Father. In fact, God your Dad!
We are called children of God. And we really are his children.
Maybe we should start acting like it!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
