Dead Faith

James 2:17,18 It is the same with faith. If it is just faith and nothing more—if it doesn’t do anything—it is dead. But someone might argue, “Some people have faith, and others have good works.” My answer would be that you can’t show me your faith if you don’t do anything. But I will show you my faith by the good that I do.

Many a marriage relationship becomes stale – not because either husband or wife wanted it to, but because they’ve stopped doing things for each other and with each other. And indeed, many a person’s faith in God has become stale for exactly the same reason.

One of the volunteers who offers her time to help us here at the ministry of Christianityworks said the other day, “You know, I never thought that I’d say this, but it’s such a privilege to come and help here each week.”

This woman travels an hour each way to serve as a volunteer. And when she gets here, she folds letters, packs booklets that people order and sticks stamps on envelopes … all day. It’s solid work.

But as she does that, she knows that lives are being changed. She knows that what she’s doing is making a powerful difference. It’s great to have faith, to believe in Jesus. But unless you do something with that, unless you put your faith to work … well, faith falls flat.

Believing in Jesus is just the most awesome thing. But can I ask you, what are you doing with that? What impact is your faith having in the lives of others? If the answer is “none”, then it’s time to do something about it.

However small or simple the work may be, be it folding letters or sticking stamps, make sure that your faith is changing someone else’s life.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
