Do Not Fear or be Dismayed

Deuteronomy 31:7-8 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Courage can be a confusing concept. It’s certainly an attribute that we admire in others. We hope that we have it too … although we hope like crazy that we never to have to use it, because we only ever need courage in a scary place.

When were you last confronted by a situation that needed you to stand up, to be counted, to be courageous? How’d you go? Did you perform well under pressure, or did it bring out some things in you that you’re not all that proud of?

Don’t be too hard on yourself. There’s no playbook to open at Section 7, page 23 that deals specifically with the situation facing you. It’s new each time, and hopefully we’ve learned from past experience.

But with all my heart I believe that God wants you to be prepared to face the things you have to face in your situation, your family, your workplace … wherever those tough circumstances arise.

Do not fear or be dismayed.” (ESV)

It’s one thing for someone to say, “Be strong and courageous,” when you’re about to face the battle of your life. It’s another thing entirely for you to know deep in your heart that the Lord has already gone before you. That He will be with you; that He’ll never leave you or forsake you.

Trust Him!

Because that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
