Do Unto Others …

Luke 6:31 Do for others what you want them to do for you.

Laughter and tears are at the opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. And the reality is that both laughter and tears are almost always brought on by things that people do to each other. So, are you someone who makes people laugh, or cry?

Beauty, as things turn out, is more than skin deep. But first impressions are important. How do we react when we meet someone who’s … different? I suspect that most of us … well, we do tend to judge a book by its cover.

“Oh, that’s fair enough!” you might say. But what about when the shoe’s on the other foot? What about when other people judge you quickly and write you off unfairly? It’s not very nice, is it? In reality, most of us are a lot harder on other people than we are on ourselves. We’re quick to judge them … but me … well, we’re all pretty good at cutting me some slack. That’s the truth.

But hang on, don’t we know the things that make us smile and the things that make us cry? And they’re the very same things that make others smile, that make others cry. So here’s a crazy idea for you. Tell me what you think.

Luke 6:31 Do for others what you want them to do for you.

Who came up with that? Jesus did. It’s often referred to as the Golden Rule and rightly so. It is pure gold. A pearl of wisdom that frankly, if we just started living it, could change the world.

Wars would cease. Conflict would cease. Exploitation would cease. Rudeness and selfishness and abuse would cease. If only we would live out that pearl of wisdom.

Do for others what you want them to do for you.

Whose face could you put a smile on today?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
