Don’t Be Squeezed

Romans 12:2 Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity.

Have you ever had that kind of squirmish, uncomfortable feeling that you’re trying to do things that you were never meant to be doing? That the fit between who you are and what you’re doing isn’t such a good one?

One of the most grotesque things that you’ll see in this world, is when someone lives their life in the straitjacket of the expectations of others.

It never ceases to amaze me how other people have a plan for our lives. At work, at home, at church even, they can treat us just as a resource, someone to do the things that they need to get done.

It’s like trying to stuff a square peg into a round hole. All of a sudden, you discover that you don’t fit so well as you try to do things that you were never made to do.

One of the greatest bits of advice in the Bible is this:

Romans 12:2 Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity. (J.B. Phillips NT)

Don’t let the world squeeze you into its mould, but instead, by giving your whole life over to Jesus, you’ll discover what is His good and perfect will for your life. In fact, you’ll prove by the way you live out who He made you to be, that His plan for your life is absolutely perfect. And more than that, living your life that way, day-by-day, will move you towards God’s goal in your life – true maturity.

Listen up: don’t let the world squeeze you into its mould.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
