Eileen

2 Chronicles 20:15 Jahaziel said, “Listen to me King Jehoshaphat and everyone living in Judah and Jerusalem! The Lord says this to you: ‘Don’t be afraid or worry about this large army, because the battle is not your battle. It is God’s battle!

When we compare ourselves with other people, we often find ourselves coming up short in our own estimation. We often come to the conclusion that God would rather work through them to achieve His plans and purposes on this earth than through us.

The other day I saw one of those small fluffy dogs on the end of a leash, but this little fur ball was walking rather strangely. That’s because she was missing a leg – so she was hobbling along on just three. I thought to myself – I wonder if the dog’s name is Eileen. (Sick, I know! 😉

Anyway, I think sometimes we all feel a bit like Eileen. We compare ourselves and think, “God could never use me like that. I could never do what they do. I’ll just have to limp along.”

I was recently asked to speak at a conference drawing on the experiences of different Bible characters. So I went with Moses, Abraham, Joseph and David as kind of the “A-list” of the Old Testament. But as I began to prepare those messages, I discovered that this ‘who’s who’ of Bible characters looked an awful lot like … Eileen.

2 Chronicles 20:15 Jahaziel said, “Listen to me King Jehoshaphat and everyone living in Judah and Jerusalem! The Lord says this to you: ‘Don’t be afraid or worry about this large army, because the battle is not your battle. It is God’s battle!

God so often puts ordinary people like thee and me into impossible situations – situations that are way, way beyond us – for a reason; so that He can fight those battles so that the glory goes to Him.

So don’t just hobble along there, Eileen, feeling sorry for yourself. Get out there into the battles that He’s called you to … because the battle belongs to the Lord.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
