Every Part of Life

Psalm 127:1,2 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved. (NRSV)

Ask anyone “So, how are things going?” and the answer, more likely than not, will go something like “Oh, you know … busy, busy, busy.” We seem to wear busyness these days as a badge of honour … even when it’s killing us.

One of the things that I truly love about God is that He wants to be a part of every part of our lives – and not just be a part of, but to bless every part of our lives.

A good many years ago now, I was working incredibly long hours and almost every day, I was so tired. So I went to see the doctor. She did all the tests. “No, you don’t have this and you don’t have that.” Her conclusion? “You’re just not getting enough sleep. You need an extra hour each night.” And there I was thinking I was superman.

It was around that time that I discovered this in God’s Word:

Psalm 127:1,2 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved. (NRSV)

A funny thing happens when we allow God to reign over every part of our lives. He speaks His wisdom into our hearts. He brings rest, He brings sleep, to those whom He loves.

Don’t get me wrong … I believe in working hard. And honestly, I don’t mind long hours doing the things that God’s made me to do. But there comes a point where frenetic activity not only ruins your health, but it also means you’re simply not trusting in God.

He wants to be involved in every part of your life. Let Him.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thank you very much for this. We get very busy trying to make things happen forgetting that God is the one in charge…if we seek Him first and His righteousness then the rest shall be added unto us! Lack of knowledge makes us do all our things the wrong way. Thank you so much.
