Excellence Stands Out from the Crowd

Daniel 6:1-3 Darius thought it would be a good idea to choose 120 satraps to rule throughout his kingdom. He chose three men to rule over the 120 satraps. Daniel was one of the three supervisors. The king put these men in this position to keep anyone from cheating him. Daniel proved himself to be a better supervisor than any of the others. He did this by his good character and great ability. The king was so impressed with Daniel that he planned to make him ruler over the whole kingdom.

People who operate in a spirit of excellence are exceptionally rare these days. You know the sort I’m talking about – those who do their very best at whatever they turn their hand to, whether someone else is watching or not.

I recently decided to change my car insurance over to a company that ended up saving me almost half my annual premium. Now, you’d expect that, at that price, you’d get lousy customer service to boot.

But nothing could have been further from the truth. The young man I spoke to on the phone was outstanding – I mean, truly brilliant. I was shocked.

Let me ask you … when was the last time you heard someone raving about outstanding customer service from an insurance company call centre? Really! It’s pretty rare … and so I haven’t stopped telling people about it. The point is that excellence in a world grey with mediocrity stands out from the crowd. A bit like Daniel, when King …
