Excuses, Excuses

Romans 1:20 There are things about God that people cannot see-his eternal power and all that makes him God. But since the beginning of the world, those things have been easy for people to understand. They are made clear in what God has made. So people have no excuse for the evil they do.

It’s so easy to find excuses for rejecting God, for not believing that He exists. Sure it is. But then, for anyone who’ll take the time to look, the evidence is overwhelming.

It’s amazing how many excuses people come up with for rejecting God. Do you seriously believe God created the world in seven days?

Well, I’m not sure how long it took, but yes I believe that God created the universe and, had He wanted to, He absolutely could have created it all in seven days.

How can there be a God if He allows suffering? Well, most of the suffering I see in this world is inflicted by people, not by God. Excuse after excuse. There’s nothing new in any of that of course.

Jesus healed a lame man who’d been lying on a mat unable to walk for thirty-eight years – “Take up your mat and walk” –

He did, but it was the Sabbath, the day of rest. You know what the religious leaders said to the man? “How dare you carry your mat around on the Sabbath – that’s work.” Just incredible!

Excuses for rejecting God are easy to come by. The problem is, they simply don’t stack up.

There are things about God that people cannot see-his eternal power and all that makes him God. But since the beginning of the world, those things have been easy for people to understand. They are made clear in what God has made. So people have no excuse for the evil they do. (Romans 1:20)

On the other side of the ledger, I can tell you this. Jesus heals. He healed me deep down inside. I’ve tasted the truth. I’ve feasted on it – and that’s more than enough to convince me.

Sure, excuses abound, but the evidence for God is overwhelming.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
