Is Anybody Out There?

Psalm 18:6 In my trouble I called to the Lord. Yes, I cried out to my God for help. There in his temple he heard my voice. He heard my cry for help.

There are times in our lives when the pain is so bad that nothing that anybody else says or does, however well intentioned, seems to make any difference. It’s in those times that we desperately need God to speak.

With all my heart, I know that the Word of God is powerful. What do I mean by that?

Well, when God speaks – and that’s what the Bible is, it’s God speaking – He can do things in us that we can’t do for ourselves.

During the darkest time of my life – just over a quarter of a century ago – the blackness was so black, the loneliness was so alone, the fear was so fearful that it drove me, literally, to the brink. I came inches away from taking my own life.

And yet God had a different plan. He pulled me back from the brink, and in the midst of the darkness, the loneliness, the fear, He drove me instead into His Word.

Psalm 18:6 In my trouble I called to the Lord. Yes, I cried out to my God for help. There in his temple he heard my voice. He heard my cry for help.

That one verse cut through the tears and the shaking, breathed hope into my heart, shone a light into the darkness, calmed my fears … like nothing else on this earth could have.

One of the greatest tragedies on this planet is seeing people who believe in Jesus suffering and yet failing to avail themselves of the comfort that God wants to speak into their hearts.

When in doubt, when in need of counsel or comfort, when you’re completely at the end of your tether … the very best thing you can do is to open your Bible and let Him speak into your heart as only He can.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
