Looking Back

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.

It’s easy to feel sometimes that God has gone missing. It’s not a nice feeling but it’s a feeling nevertheless that we all experience at some point. Which is why today we’re going to pray together. Ready?

Have you ever felt as though God is a million miles away, that looking back, somewhere in the busyness of life, the two of you seemed to have parted company? Well, if that rings a bell, then this prayer is for you:

Father God, you know something? As I look back on my life, I know there have been some great times, some really good times.

But, in my heart of hearts, I just know too that I’ve been running around trying to fill myself up – trying to, you know, buy this and do that, and achieve this and go there, and somehow in the middle of all that I just know that I’ve wandered off. I know that I’ve left you behind.

And I just got to thinking about Jesus. I thought about how He was nailed to that Cross. I was thinking how incredibly painful that must have been. I can’t imagine.

They tell me, Lord Jesus, that you died for me. And the more I think about that – wow, everything else just kind of … well, all those things just seem so small, so petty, so irrelevant.

Lord, I’m not sure I completely understand why you had to die. But deep inside I know you did. I just know you did. Thank you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Friend, Jesus … Jesus came for you.

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.

Friend, Jesus came for you. He died to save you from your sin.

Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thank you. I needed that reminder of what Jesus did for me.
