Jesus Came to …

1 John 3:8 The devil has been sinning since the beginning. Anyone who continues to sin belongs to the devil. The Son of God came for this: to destroy the devil’s work.

I feel the need today to chat with you about the little compromises that may be creeping into your life. You know … those “little sins” – the ones that in your estimation really don’t matter, the ones you’ve been sweeping under the rug.

God makes almost no distinction between “big sins” and “little sins”. In Galatians 5:19 he includes sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies … all in the one list.

So, causing strife at work is right up there next to drunkenness and orgies. No distinction. So let’s not start kidding ourselves that we can get by, by making compromises that are, in fact, according to God’s Word … sin.

And just to focus the mind a bit more …

1 John 3:8 The devil has been sinning since the beginning. Anyone who continues to sin belongs to the devil. The Son of God came for this: to destroy the devil’s work.

That is one sobering verse of scripture that cuts right to the little compromises that we’d like to rationalise away. Do you hear what God is saying to us, to you and me, today? Anyone who continues to sin belongs to the devil. Just let the Holy Spirit convict you of that truth today.

But now … now for some good news; some very good news. The Son of God came for this: to destroy the devil’s work. This is the very reason that Jesus came for you: To wipe your sin-slate clean. To give you the power to walk away from your sin. To destroy the works of the devil … in your life.

This is why Jesus came … for you! That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
