Just What Jesus Predicted
John 17:15-18 I am not asking you to take them out of the world. But I am asking that you keep them safe from the Evil One. They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world. Make them ready for your service through your truth. Your teaching is truth. I have sent them into the world, just as you sent me into the world.
I think it’s pretty true for all of us that there never seems to be a time in our lives when there’s not something going on that we’d rather not have going on. It’s true, isn’t it? There always seems to be something!
Now, that “something” can be a combination of small niggling things, or perhaps it’s one or two really big things.
And even if at the moment everything seems to be just peachy … we both know that doesn’t last forever. There’s a reason for that. Life’s complicated. The world’s messy. People are difficult. Emotions are fickle.
So, what’s the “something” that you have going on at the moment that you’d rather not be dealing with? As you contemplate that, let’s see what Jesus had to say on that very thing as He was praying to His Father about you and me just before they arrested Him:
John 17:15-18 I am not asking you to take them out of the world. But I am asking that you keep them safe from the Evil One. They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world. Make them ready for your service through your truth. Your teaching is truth. I have sent them into the world, just as you sent me into the world.
Don’t you wish sometimes that God would use His magic wand and whisk you out of your troubles? And yet, that was never His plan.
The plan is to leave you in this messy world, to protect you, to keep you safe, and to change the place … through you. So be encouraged. That was always the plan.
And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
