Love Is …

1 Corinthians 13:4,5 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. (NRSV)

I’ve never been a great fan of this crazy idea of … well, “Why say something in six words, when you can say it in sixty?” Flowery language might impress some, but let’s be honest, less is more most of the time.

Each day as I prepare these devotional messages, I spend quite a bit of time after they’re written to pare them back, to simplify the language, to get to the heart of what God’s saying in His Word. Because my job isn’t to dazzle you with eloquence, it’s to share the powerful love of Jesus Christ with you plainly and clearly.

That’s why I so love this particular Scripture. The sheer power in its simplicity and economy of words is breathtaking.

1 Corinthians 13:4,5 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. (NRSV)

Let’s just focus on the first six words. Love is patient; love is kind.

If those six words were to be lived out consistently by God’s people around the globe, by you and me in our little patch, they would radically transform the world, would you agree?

The other day things were coming at me from every angle. I was under a lot of pressure, and I noticed that I was starting to get snappy with the people around me. So I stopped, took a deep breath, and allowed the power of God to be unleashed in my heart through those six words. They instantly transformed my attitude and my actions.

Love is patient; love is kind. Those are amongst the six most powerfully life changing, world transforming words that will ever enter your heart.

Love is patient; love is kind.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
