Love is …

1 Corinthians 13:1 Love is patient, love is kind.

Love is such a wonderful thing. We all love the idea of love. We all want to be loved. But doing love, living out love, giving love … well that’s not always all that easy now, is it?

Each day the world seems to be spinning around faster and faster, have you noticed? We wish things would slow down but they don’t ever seem to. In fact, it’s just getting worse. And the faster and more frenetic things get, the more transactional, the more impersonal our relationships become.

Maybe that’s why so many people spend so little time investing in relationships these days. Most of us, frankly, are simply too busy. The long commute to work, the crowds, the pressure … and even if you don’t live in that sort of environment, still … with all the technology at our fingertips these days, it seem that the more connected we are, the shallower our relationships become.

And when that happens, when the pressure’s on, we become really quite impatient with the world and with the people around us. In our rush, if people don’t move quickly enough, if people don’t do what we want them to do, what we expect them to do, we become impatient.

And you know what “impatient” looks like on people’s faces. It makes them … it makes us … look grumpy. We become rude, we become unkind, we just roll over the top of people to get to where we’re going. Does any of that sound even vaguely familiar?

Here’s something to think about:

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind.

Such a short, simple verse in the Bible. Imagine what our world would look like if you and I decided just to live out that one verse. Love is patient, love is kind.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
