Making it Through
2 Thessalonians 3:5 We pray that the Lord will cause you to feel God’s love and remember Christ’s patient endurance.
As we saw yesterday, turning away from what we know is wrong to do what we know is right, repentance in other words, is going to bring the forces of darkness crashing down on your head. But there is a way through.
Isaac Newton’s third law of motion states that every action results in an equal and opposite reaction. And that same thing is true in the spiritual realm when we decide to turn away from that which we know is wrong. The devil will, without a shadow of a doubt, come after you to try and drag you back into sin. That’s why the passage we looked at yesterday is so important:
2 Thessalonians 3:3,4 But the Lord is faithful. He will give you strength and protect you from the Evil One. The Lord gives us confidence that you are doing what we told you and that you will continue to do it.
God is in this with you, to strengthen you, to protect you … and that’s something that you can have complete confidence in. But interesting what the Apostle Pauls writes next to his friends in the church in Thessalonica:
2 Thessalonians 3:5 We pray that the Lord will cause you to feel God’s love and remember Christ’s patient endurance.
So Paul and his team were praying that in standing firm, in taking that God-above-all stance in their lives against evil to honour the Lord, they would experience the love of God in their hearts and remember with their minds the patient endurance that Jesus demonstrated in going to the Cross for them.
And that … that’s my prayer for you too. As you stand firm in your faith-filled repentance, may the Holy Spirit fill your heart with the love of God and constantly remind you of Christ’s patient endurance in dying for you.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
