No Leap in the Dark
John 12:44-46 Then Jesus said loudly, “Everyone who believes in me is really believing in the one who sent me. Everyone who sees me is really seeing the one who sent me. I came into this world as a light. I came so that everyone who believes in me will not stay in darkness.”
From the outside looking in, it can appear as though believing in this Jesus, who claims to be the Son of God, is a risky business. For many, the whole idea of faith is that it’s a leap in the dark. What do you think?
Back when I was weighing up whether or not to throw my lot in with these “Christians”, I have to say it did feel a bit like that. What would He demand of me? Would He send me to the ends of the earth as a missionary (a notion that wasn’t all appealing, I have to say)?
And if you at some point decided to follow Jesus, you too will no doubt have had times of darkness, when you’ve thought “What’s going on? What’s it all mean? Is it really worth it?” And that’s because uncertainty is intrinsically part of the faith experience. After all, if you knew how things were going to play out, you wouldn’t need faith.
But Jesus’ plan was never to keep us in the dark. Quite the opposite:
John 12:44-46 Then Jesus said loudly, “Everyone who believes in me is really believing in the one who sent me. Everyone who sees me is really seeing the one who sent me. I came into this world as a light. I came so that everyone who believes in me will not stay in darkness.”
How did He say it? Loudly! What did He say? I came into this world as a light. I came so that everyone who believes in me will not stay in darkness.”
It turns out that faith in Jesus isn’t a leap in the dark – it’s a step into the Light!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
