Open… or Closed?
Revelation 3:19,20 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (ESV)
One of the most unpalatable things about being a Christian is repenting; turning away from what we know is wrong – which is why a lot of people hold out on Jesus.
The thing that makes repenting (you’ll excuse me if I use that word) so difficult is that we have to admit that we’re wrong, so our pride comes into play. And at the same time, we’re addicted to our particular little sin. And just as addicts delude themselves over the consequences of their addiction, we kid ourselves that Jesus will give us a little nudge and wink; that He’ll give us a special dispensation because, after all, we’re special.
But because He loves us, that’s not something that He’ll allow to continue. Oh no! Says Jesus…

Jesus knows that our ongoing sin will lead to an eternal death, and because He loves us, make no mistake … He will bring things to a head; He will reprove, He will discipline – at which point we have a choice.
We can be zealous and repent, or we can resist Him, as though that somehow makes sense. Man, it’s hard to repent, but when we hear His voice, are we really going to close the door of our heart to Him?
