Prophecy – True or False?
Romans 1:5 Through Christ, God gave me the special work of an apostle—to lead people of all nations to believe and obey him. I do all this to honour Christ.
There seem to be a lot of people on my social media feeds these days claiming to be apostles, prophets and the like. And yes, those are gifts that the New Testament talks about. But are they genuine? Are they for real?
It’s nothing new, in the fact that the truth of the Gospel of Christ is being twisted and perverted for sordid gain. That’s been going on for centuries.
And yet amongst the dross, there are those genuinely anointed by God to speak His will into society and into our lives. As I said, the New Testament makes it very clear that there are indeed gifted apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11).
So how do you know which ones are the real deal; which ones are speaking the truth and the will of God, and which ones are perverting the truth for their own gain?
Well, here’s the answer, as the Apostle Paul writes to the church in Rome back in the 1st Century AD:

Paul claimed to be an apostle and the job of an apostle is quite simply to lead people everywhere to believe in and obey Jesus, doing it all to honour Christ. I’ve heard it said that we seem to havecreated a prophetic culture that’s addicted to hearing God but allergic to obeying Him.
There’s a lot of truth in that. If someone claims to be speaking on God’s behalf, they should be calling you to faith in Jesus and obedience to His Word. If they’re not, don’t listen to them.
