Ready to Die
Romans 10:8,9 This is what the Scripture says: “God’s teaching is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart.” It is the teaching of faith that we tell people. If you openly say, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from death, you will be saved.
I was having dinner recently with some old friends. They truly were old friends. She was in her eighties and he was in his nineties. And as I listened to them talk, I realised that at their stage in life, they had a whole different outlook on life compared to me.
None of us likes to think about death all that much, but here’s the sobering truth. One day you and I will breathe our last breath on this earth. Now, we can joke about death but when it’s staring us in the face – as it will one day – it’s no laughing matter.
I used to be petrified of dying. I remember a really rough plane flight some years ago landing in Christchurch in New Zealand just as a cold front was passing through the airport. Man, I was so scared. Then … then something changed for me.
With every fibre of my being, somewhere really deep inside, I gave my life over to Jesus. What does that mean?
Well, I said “Lord, everything I am and everything I have, every hope and every dream. I give to you.” And then after that it meant actually trusting Him and believing, knowing that because He died to pay for my sins, I’m going to live forever. And without me even realising it, the fear of dying went away.
Now don’t get me wrong – I have so much to live for and so much I want to do. But when that day comes, I’m ready.

What about you? Are you ready?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
