Should I Walk Away From God?

Genesis 28:16 Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!”

We would love to think that following Jesus is easy. Well, at the very least, it should be a darned sight easier than what it is, surely!

Have you ever felt like walking away from God? It’s all just too hard. And in any case, God doesn’t seem to be helping. In fact, He’s stopped showing up altogether!

I received an email from a man the other day that really made me think. Here’s what he wrote:

I’ve always prayed wholeheartedly and believed that prayers move mountains. But two months ago, something horrendous happened in our lives. I feel so God-forsaken, as if there’s no God at all. I’m at a crossroad. After being a Jesus-follower for almost forty years, I don’t know if I want to go on in my walk with Him.

If you relate, even just a little bit, to what this man’s feeling, I want to encourage you today. Because the truth is that the Lord is in this place with you, just as He is with that man and just as He was with Jacob, way back in the Old Testament.

There are definitely going to be times when it feels as though God has disappeared. As though it’s all too hard. As though you’re alone. And yet, as Jacob discovered, nothing … nothing could be further from the truth!

So whatever you do, whatever you’re going through, whatever you’re feeling right now – don’t give up. Don’t walk away, because the Lord is in this place with you.

Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!
