Stuck in the Mud

Psalm 119:105 Your word is like a lamp that guides my steps, a light that shows the path I should take.

We love comparing ourselves to other people. We just do. And all too often, we don’t come off too well in that comparison, do we?

Have you ever felt like your life is stuck in the mud? Everybody else seems to be headed somewhere … they’re being blessed, they’re enjoying life. And yet you feel as though your life is going nowhere.

So we just wallow in self-pity, sulking – I’m stuck in the mud, I’m stuck in the mud, I’m stuck in the mud. Oh please! As though that’s going to help. I mean – really?!

Wake up! Here’s some good news! God not only knows the way forward – when, where, how – but He wants to show you the way. That’s a realisation that the psalmist comes to as he prays this prayer, to God:

Psalm 119:105 Your word is like a lamp that guides my steps, a light that shows the path I should take.

So when it’s dark, when the way ahead is murky and unclear, when you feel as though your feet are stuck in the mud, God will speak, through His Word. And that achieves two things.

Firstly, His Word becomes like a lamp for your feet, to guide your steps, so you can see where to put your foot down next –immediate help for the very next step. But not just that!

Secondly, God’s Word also lights up your path, so you can look up beyond the next step or two, to see the way forward.

Open your eyes, open your Bible, let God shine His light on your journey. Then take one step, and the next … and just follow the light.

My word is like a lamp that guides your steps, a light that shows you the path you should take.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
