Sight for the Blind

Luke 4:18,19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (NRSV)

We don’t like to admit it, but we all have blind spots. We all have things that we think, say, do and feel, that are wrong. Problem is, we can’t always see them. Either that, or we don’t want to admit them to ourselves. And that … that’s why they’re blind spots.

Have you ever been driving your car, you check your rear vision mirror, your side mirrors, left, right, and you think, Yep, it’s all clear? I can change lanes.

But no sooner do you put your indicator on and start moving across, than you hear a loud horn, and you quickly swerve back. It’s pretty unnerving.

Why did it happen? Because that other vehicle was in your blind spot. But did you know that it’s actually possible to align your mirrors so that there aren’t any blind spots at all? It is and in fact, that’s how your car’s been designed.

Our sin is a bit like that. We have blind spots and so we keep on making the same mistakes over and over again, ruining our lives and our relationships.

One of the reasons Jesus came, was to restore sight to the blind. That’s you and me … so that we can see things as they are and have a better life. We don’t always want to see our own weaknesses, but that’s the only way we get the abundant life that Jesus came to bring us.

Jesus came to take away the blind spots, so you can see things as they are. In fact, that’s how you’ve been designed.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
