Spiritual Blockage

John 4:14 But anyone who drinks the water I give will never be thirsty again. The water I give people will be like a spring flowing inside them. It will bring them eternal life.

At some point we all come to the conclusion – whether we’ll admit it or not – that we aren’t good enough for God. I did, and for years I tried to hide from Him while I cleaned up my act. What a stupid thing that was!

I was listening to one of my favourite actors being interviewed recently, and he shared how he’d experienced the most incredible pain in his stomach. They rushed him to a doctor who found a blockage in his intestine, and without an immediate operation he was going to die.

Blockages in your body are almost always deadly; in your airways, in your arteries, in your gut. If they’re not dealt with pronto, they can kill you. And spiritual blockages, as things turn out, are just the same.

Look, I know that “sin” isn’t exactly a trendy word. But it’s God’s word – a small three-letter word for the blockage that happens when we turn our backs on Him, a blockage that brings death for eternity.

But then God comes along with another Word – five letters this time. It’s the Word of life.; The Word that takes away the blockage. That Word? Jesus. This is how He Himself put it:

John 4:14 But anyone who drinks the water I give will never be thirsty again. The water I give people will be like a spring flowing inside them. It will bring them eternal life.

Each of us has some “sin” – some “thing” – that separates us from God. So what we do is … we try to clean up our act. Great … but in the long run, it doesn’t work.

What does work is drawing closer to Jesus, drinking in the living water that Jesus gives – His Spirit, His Word – to flush out the blockage as only He can.

Working harder at it isn’t the answer. Drawing close to Jesus is.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
