That One Thing

Romans 15:13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

A lot of people travel through life knowing that something … something is missing. But what? That “something” can be a difficult thing to put your finger on … so we just keep going, knowing that something is still missing.

So, what’s missing in your life? If you had to name just one thing that you’d really, really like to have – what would it be?

I’d love to be married … I wish I had a better marriage …

Are you yearning for a better job, a better boss, a small pay rise to afford some of life’s little luxuries? We all have that one thing, “If only I could have …” what?

But deep down, you and I both know that if we had that thing, then there’d be another thing on the list, then another and another, when all along what we really hunger for is just that inner peace and a quiet joy. But how do you get that? What’s the secret to having that peace and joy? Here it is:

Romans 15:13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Despite what the world may throw at us, God gives us a certain hope. And He fills us with much joy and peace – not just a bit, but a lot – as we trust in Him. And the natural consequence of that is that the hope that God puts in you, overflows out of you into the lives of those around you by the power of His Spirit.

All you and I need to do – our part in all of that – is to trust in Him. That’s the secret.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
