That Time is Coming

Revelation 21:22-24 I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.

Imagine with me, if you will, a world without the sun and, of course then, without the moon too – a constant state of darkness, one that’ll never end. Under those circumstances, life on this earth would be snuffed out pretty quickly.

Now that’s a cheery way to kick off our time together today, wouldn’t you agree? Don’t worry, it’s about to get better. A lot better. Imagine now a world where the sun and the moon have become redundant; one where they’re no longer required.

John the Apostle was given a glimpse into heaven, into the eternity that God has waiting for those who believe in Jesus. Here’s just a tiny sliver of what God revealed through him:

Revelation 21:22-24 I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. (NRSV)

Without doubt, you and I are going to have some dark, sunless, moonless days on this earth. They come to us all. So yesterday, we saw that Jesus came to shine His glory, His light, into our lives. Awesome!

But that’s just the beginning, because when you accept His glory, when you put your trust in Him, you’re entering into a future where He’ll be your light … forever. That’s what He has ready and waiting for you.

Because that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
