The Alternative

2 Peter 1:3,5-9 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God. We have these things because we know him … Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God; to your devotion add kindness toward your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to this kindness add love. If all these things are in you and growing, you will never fail to be useful to God. You will produce the kind of fruit that should come from your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who don’t grow in these blessings are blind. They cannot see clearly what they have. They have forgotten that they were cleansed from their past sins.

Today I’d like to share a sobering message with you. It may not be one that you want to hear, but it’s one that you need to hear. So please stick with me. It’s really important.

Firstly, the good news. If you believe in God, you already have everything you need to live your best life.

2 Peter 1:3 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God. We have these things because we know him.

Awesome! And here are the things you need to do to cooperate with Him to live your very best life. We’ve looked at each one over this past week. Perhaps one or two of them jump out at you right now.

2 Peter 1:5-8 Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God; to your devotion add kindness toward your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to this kindness add love. If all these things are in you and growing, you will never fail to be useful to God. You will produce the kind of fruit that should come from your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Finally, you really need to hear today, what happens to those who don’t cooperate with God in the blessings He’s already given them.

2 Peter 1:9 But those who don’t grow in these blessings are blind. They cannot see clearly what they have. They have forgotten that they were cleansed from their past sins.

Please, don’t be one of those. Don’t waste your life!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
