The Best Hamburger in Chicago

Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.

We each, at some point in our lives, feel a deep longing inside for something … something that perhaps we can’t even put words to. And sadly, so many of the things out there that promise so much simply fail to deliver. I don’t know about you but I love a good hamburger – the old-fashioned kind – a fresh bun, lettuce, tomato, onion. You can’t beat it.

I was in Chicago recently, and I noticed a small sign on Michigan Avenue proclaiming that this particular hamburger joint made the best hamburger in Chicago. So I wandered in with high hopes. The place was a dump, but not to be deterred I sat down for the best burger in town.

Well, seriously, it would have to be one of the worst hamburgers I’ve ever tasted. I’m sure there are some great burger joints in that great city – it’s just that this wasn’t one of them! It just goes to show that you can’t always believe the advertising hype!

How often do things scream out at us with promise so we spend our money, just to find out that they’re impostors? At the end of the day, there are very few things that really satisfy.

Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.

If you’re travelling through dry lands, if your bones need strengthening, He is the one who will lead you into that garden with plenty of water. His spring of love and grace and mercy and encouragement and power … will never, ever run dry. That’s not advertising hype. That’s the truth. He will meet your deepest longings. He will hold you close, now and forever.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
