The Bike Rider

Galatians 6:9 We must not get tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up.

When adversity strikes, as it does from time to time in everybody’s life, our immediate response is to pull back, to withdraw, and at that point many a person will simply … give up.

When was the last time you were tempted to give up … on a difficult marriage, on a child that’s disobeyed you for the umpteenth time, on a calling that God’s placed on your life but it’s just too hard, too punishing, too exhausting.

Adversity has a way of convincing us that it’s time to give up.

I saw something inspiring the other day. I’m walking through the crowded streets near our office, and you know those couriers who dart through the traffic and the pedestrians on their bikes – how they don’t get killed on the road I’ll never know.

Anyhow, I saw one of those guys on his pushbike, but he only had one leg. The other leg was an artificial limb – just a kind of a metal leg with a foot on it. At some point, he’d quite obviously lost his leg and yet the job he chooses for himself is to be a courier – riding a bike all day through the traffic.

How easy would it have been for him just to give up when he lost his leg?

How easy is it for you and me to want to give up when we face adversity?

Galatians 6:9 We must not get tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up.

God knows there are times when we want to give up. It’s a huge temptation. But I believe that today, here and now, this is what He wants to say to you:

Don’t get tired of doing good. Don’t give up. Harvest time is coming!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
