The Deepest Yearning of Your Heart

Isaiah 26:9 At night my soul longs to be with you, and the spirit in me wants to be with you at the dawn of every new day.

The other morning, I stopped for a break around eight o’clock and I realised that I’d spent time on a call to the US, another to Canada, responded to an email from the UK, and yet another from Europe, and dealt with some issues with our team in Africa. All from my study desk before eight in the morning!

As I sipped on a cup of coffee, I thought to myself, this is bizarre! I mean, I remember my grandfather telling me about the house he grew up in during the late 1800’s in Romania: instead of glass in the windows, they had animal skins.

The world’s changed enormously. Technology has revolutionised the way we live, and yet deep down in our hearts – in that place where we dream – honestly, I don’t thing much has changed at all.

There’s still a hunger, a yearning, for something more. There must be more to life than just racing around doing all this stuff!

At night my soul longs to be with you, and the spirit in me wants to be with you at the dawn of every new day. (Isaiah 26:9)

It’s so easy for us to allow the day-to-day realities of life, to crowd out the deepest yearnings of our heart. But in those quiet, still moments, that inner emptiness, that inner longing for God, is as plain as day. It’s unmistakable, undeniable.

A.W. Tozer once wrote:

I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain.

Yearn for God.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.

This word “YEARNING” makes me just so happy that for a long time I have wanted to, so speak, personalize it as it reminded me of one of my favorite love songs I really used to love that went like this in part……’.these arms of mine their yearning to hold you….’ that’s in the late 6o’s ….
NOW that am born again, I am recalling the same yearning DIFFERENTLY in relation to our Lord Jesus yearning like the prodigal son’s father I imagined was equally “longing” to do so…. until he saw him ….at a distance!!

Hi Berni and your wonderful team.
My day starts with ‘God’s Word Fresh 4 U Today’. Thank you for such a variety of subjects all centered on the Love God has for us and simple ways for me to apply those truths to my life.
I can’t wait to fire up my computer and see what the Lord has led you to bring to my life and yes, it is so fresh. My wife and I along with a wonderful committee of dedicated folk, minister to senior citizens in our community and I have been able to take ideas from your devotions to bring to our group.
May you and your co-workers in Christ be richly blessed.
Jim
