The Halo Effect

Isaiah 29:23 Yes, when they see all their children, the children I myself have made for them, they will honour my name as holy. They will respect the God of Israel.

It’s funny how often God speaks to us through simple ordinary things that happen in our lives – through young people cleverly mucking around with technology. God is speaking, but are we listening?

We were redeveloping our website, christianityworks.com, recently. And the young developers, all in their twenties and thirties … well, they decided to have a bit of fun with it. So before it went live, they stuck a little halo over my picture on the homepage.

We all had a good laugh and then I told them to take it off!

But it just kind of reminded me that if we’re made in God’s image then surely, surely God must have a sense of humour. I hold God in absolute awe and yet Jesus told us to call Him Dad. That was an absolute outrage to the first century Jews.

It’s still an outrage today. This awesome, beautiful, wonderful God, who at the same time is like a tender Dad – someone whom we can sit down and talk with, laugh with, cry with. And someone whom we can worship.

And it just reminded me, as God spoke to me through these young people, what a blessing those young folk are in our lives:

Isaiah 29:23 Yes, when they see all their children, the children I myself have made for them, they will honour my name as holy. They will respect the God of Israel.

It’s easy for us to scorn those younger than us as being soft and immature. Sure, they’re generationally different, but the older I get, the more I see God’s glory in them and through them.

We simply couldn’t have built that website without them. That’s God’s glory shining through those young folk; and that’s how it’s meant to be.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

This is so true, I absolutely appreciate the fact that as I am getting older my children are keeping me up to date with the ever increasing rise of Technology. In fact the other day my 17 year old daughter made a comment about how her 10 year old brother and 9 year old sister will know how to see and then un-see a comment on Facebook or Messenger , and that she was getting old. I wasn’t aware that we could even get that information in the first I said to her and she looked at me and I at her and we both laughed , GETTING OLD !!!!! …..

Hi Berni, there used to be an option to listen to you reading the “Fresh” devotional and even a video to watch it. That seems to have been taken off.
I quite enjoyed listening to you read it out. Please bring it back!
God bless you!
