The Person God Wants You to Be

Colossians 1:28 So we continue to tell people about Christ. We use all wisdom to counsel every person and teach every person. We are trying to bring everyone before God as people who have grown to be spiritually mature in Christ.

Life throws a lot of stuff at you, right? Constantly, day after day … challenges, conflict, uncertainty … you get the drift – so let me ask you, how well equipped are you to handle it all?

The theory is that we should be growing all the time, that we should be better able to handle things today than say, five years ago. So as you compare yourself as you are today with who you were five years ago, have you grown? Have you matured? Are you better able to handle things?

If yes, good for you. But if not, you have to ask yourself … why not? Because God has a plan for you to grow – not just in strength and resolve, not just in wisdom (although that’s incredibly important) but also in humility and grace – into the person He wants you to be. Here it is:

Colossians 1:28 So we continue to tell people about Christ. We use all wisdom to counsel every person and teach every person. We are trying to bring everyone before God as people who have grown to be spiritually mature in Christ.

God’s vision for you is that you should grow to be spiritually mature in Christ. Is that your vision too? And if so, how are you setting about doing that? Are you receiving His wisdom, His counsel, His teaching, His Word? Are you living it out?

Someone once suggested that to get with God’s vision for our lives, we should start writing our own eulogy and never stop revising it, because God’s plan is that you grow to become spiritually mature in Christ.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
