The Power of the Past

Isaiah 43:18,19 So don’t remember what happened in earlier times. Don’t think about what happened a long time ago, because I am doing something new! Now you will grow like a new plant. Surely you know this is true. I will even make a road in the desert, and rivers will flow through that dry land.

For many people, the past holds such an incredible power over them that it’s ruining their present and robbing them of their future. The regrets of the past can do that. But I believe that today God wants to set you free from the regrets of your past by the power of His Word, amen?

Can I ask you today, what’s the one thing in your past that you wish had never happened? The one thing, if you could turn the clock back, that you’d erase, that you’d do differently, that you’d set right?

And – be honest with yourself – how much is that one thing still hanging over your life today? For many, the answer to that question is something of a scary thought.

Regret is a feeling of sadness or disappointment over something that happened, that you perhaps did or failed to do.

What if you could be free of that regret? What if God could speak a powerful Word into your heart today to set you free from the regrets of your past? Because let me tell you, that’s absolutely what He wants to do.

Isaiah 43:18,19
So don’t remember what happened in earlier times. Don’t think about what happened a long time ago, because I am doing something new! Now you will grow like a new plant. Surely you know this is true. I will even make a road in the desert, and rivers will flow through that dry land.

God is in the business of wiping your slate clean. In Christ, the past has no power over you. And He doesn’t just wipe it clean so that it’ll be clean (as though that weren’t enough): He wipes it clean so that He can do a new thing.

Now you will grow like a new plant. Surely you know this is true. I will even make a road in the desert, and rivers will flow through that dry land.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thank you so much. This is God’s Word that I have needed. I have cried so many tears because of regret for staying in an emotionally abusive marraige. I thought it was the right Christian thing to do. I’ve felt sad, annoyed, my heart physically hurt, and at times I have been depressed because of disrespectful treatment that I endured. I have been angry with myself for staying for 15 years.
Isaiah 43:18,19 are wonderful verses and thank you for your teaching. I’ve known God has a better future but now I trust Him more.
